WHO WE ARE

A PLACE WHERE HISTORY, NATURE AND HOSPITALITY COME TOGETHER TO CREATE UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES

LAKE EDEN RETREAT: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lake Eden Retreat offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and modern amenities. Our 70+ acre property has been inspiring visitors for generations, serving as a backdrop for artists, writers, musicians, and travelers seeking a serene and enriching experience.

OUR STORY

Lake Eden Retreat is a family-owned and operated business. The Pickering family first moved here in 1956 and has continuously cared for and lived on the property ever since. After hosting weddings and events over the years for various friends and family, in 2004, we began operating Lake Eden Events & Lodging as a destination for gatherings of all types. We are committed to being a safe and inviting space for everyone and do not abide by discrimination in any form.

A RICH HISTORY

Many of the Lake Eden Events grounds and buildings were originally developed by E.W. Grove (of the Grove Park Inn and Grove Arcade in Asheville) at the beginning of the 20th century. While the project stalled, it did operate as the Lake Eden Inn & Resort in the early 1900s, offering a getaway for people seeking its healing waters and refreshing air. In the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, the historic Black Mountain College operated on the grounds and built many of the more modern buildings on the site, including Sequoia & Albers Cottages and the Barns. When the College closed its doors in 1957, the property was purchased by the Pickering family and turned into Camp Rockmont for Boys (which is still adjacent to our location). After retiring from the summer camp business, we retained the 70+ acre portion, which we now use for Lake Eden Retreat. The LEAF Festival also utilizes this amazing property for camping, healing arts, production, poetry tent, and events during the twice-annual festival, hosting over 10,000 guests each time.

LOOKING AHEAD

We are always looking to improve our facilities and amenities here at Lake Eden. Recent additions include the renovation of the Lounging Barn, originally constructed by students of Black Mountain College, now an inviting rustic space available for picnics, brunches, and events. We also purchased a mobile restroom/shower facility for use during tented events and for guests taking advantage of our camping option during onsite events. Future plans include adding outdoor games around the property, creating a nature walking trail with informational stops and secluded hideaways, and adding more lodging options, including renovating the Homesteading Cottage and building several cabins.
