OUR ACCOMMODATIONS

LOG CABIN

Rustic elegance in a newly rebuilt 1814 Log Cabin at Lake Eden in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The cabin is nestled in a grove where the historic Black Mountain College once thrived during the ’40s and ’50s as one of the most important educational and artistic experiments. Mt. Mitchell, the highest point east of the Rockies, stands tall in the distance, mountain lakes and streams welcome you, and the beauty and spirit of this place is truly relaxing and magical. While you enjoy a feeling of being far away you have the luxury of being close to so many great experiences… Black Mountain (5 minutes), Asheville (20 min), Blue Ridge Parkway, Biltmore Estate, Cherokee, and outdoor adventures abound (hikes, rafting, mountain biking, climbing, picnics, etc).

THE STUDIO

The Studio was originally designed as a documentary photography creative space. In September of 2006 it was renovated to accommodate guests and travelers. It has an inspiring, modern, spacious feeling with the outdoor wooded surroundings to complement your stay. As with all of the lodging at Lake Eden, the Studio has its own unique environment and is an easy relaxing getaway retreat.

SEQUOIA COTTAGE

A House Created by Black Mountain College

Built in 1944 and originally named the Jalowetz Cottage after the German music composer who lived there with his wife, this cottage was built as a Black Mountain College Student Project under the direction of Lawrence Kocher, a modern architect. He inspired his students to work with locally found materials, and to create space that was small in square footage yet felt spacious and inspiring. The cottage is listed in the National Register of Historic Places along with many of our older buildings here onsite but has been renovated and added onto over the years with a fantastic deck, master bedroom with jetted tub, gas fireplace, full kitchen and more. The deck overlooks a stream that quietly babbles on its way to our private lake.

MEADOWS SUITE

Built in the 1920’s by famed local developer E.W. Grove and originally called Meadows Inn and later used by Black Mountain College as classrooms and student lodging, this spacious 2 bedroom ground floor rental has been recently renovated with a full kitchen, 1.5 baths, a large screened porch and more. Meadows, along with many of the older buildings here on property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

ALBERS COTTAGE

Built around 1947, this cottage was constructed as a Black Mountain College faculty lodging. It is believed to be the only house ever designed by Josef Albers, the famed artist who taught for many years at the school after leaving the Bauhaus School in Germany. The cottage has been renovated and added onto over the years with a deck, 4 bedrooms, full kitchen and more. The deck overlooks a private yard next to a stream that quietly babbles on its way to our private lake. The Albers Cottage, along with many of the older buildings here on property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

LAST CHANCE

Last Chance is nestled in a private grove at the foot of the mountains with a private bonfire pit and yard. This 1953 Spartan Imperial Mansion is named after the Black Mountain College student lodging named Last Chance which once resided in this spot on the grounds.

One of the newest addition to Lake Eden lodgings is a “Glamping” style lodging perfect for 2 guests! This 37′ Spartan Imperial Mansion camper has been fully restored for a luxurious stay in the mountains. The Spartan Aircraft Company began making these rare and sought after models in the 1940’s after many years as a luxury airplane maker. Today you can experience a bit of the past with new modern amenities. There is a queen bed, bathroom with shower, small kitchenette with a 2 burner electric stove, vintage fridge and coffee maker inside. Outside is a gas grill, bonfire pit and private “Campground” area.
